Brainpan AIVI™ Q2 2026 Insurance AI Visibility Benchmark

The Brainpan AIVI™ (AI Visibility Index) measures how often and how favorably a brand is retrieved, cited, and recommended by AI answer engines. State Farm leads the Q2 2026 leaderboard across a 134-brand study spanning ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, and Claude — see the Top 10 named rankings, category winners, and methodology below.

The Q2 2026 AIVI™ leaderboard, top 10 of 134 brands.

State Farm leads on scale — the most mentions, the most raw citations, and the highest Top-3 rate in the top 10. But it isn't the most-recommended brand in the study: USAA converts a higher share of its mentions into active recommendations.

Why volume and quality diverge?

1

Category leadership is fragmented.

GEICO leads Auto, State Farm leads Home and Renters, MassMutual leads Life, and The Hartford leads Commercial — no single brand owns every line.

2

AI visibility can diverge sharply from market share.

Amica's Home visibility runs 10.8x its real NAIC market share; Farmers is a top-6 national Auto carrier by premium yet is functionally invisible in AI answers (0.01x).

3

Category leadership

Each insurance line has its own AI competitive field.

Category rankings use Visibility Points — the sum of position, recommendation, and citation scores within each line. These are not normalized 0–100 AIVI™ scores and should not be compared across lines of different sizes.

Insurtech cohort

Insurtech visibility is polarized, not evenly distributed.

A small group of insurtechs holds a real, category-specific position in AI answers. A much larger group is effectively absent. The reliable sample is limited to brands with at least ten organic mentions, per the reliability threshold — below that, a handful of appearances produces a misleadingly strong rate.

Insurtech brands at or above the ten-mention reliability threshold, Q2 2026. Share of model is computed against the study-wide 4,328 organic mentions.

Below the line. Branch and Clearcover recorded zero organic mentions across all 1,500 responses — functionally invisible in the answer layer for this prompt set. Root, Hippo, Kin, and Bestow also fall below the ten-mention reliability threshold, so no rate metrics are published for them.

The finding is the split itself. Lemonade at rank 14 and Haven Life at rank 32 sit inside the same measured field as carriers a hundred times their size, while brands with comparable funding and press coverage do not appear at all. Category presence in AI answers is not a function of capital raised.

Five engines, five different leaderboards

Only two of the five AI engines cite a source at all.

  • All 1,742 organic citations in the study come from Perplexity or Copilot only.
  • Perplexity: 925 mentions, 100% citation rate — every claim sourced.
  • Copilot: 854 mentions, 95.7% citation rate, highest Top-3 rate (65.6%).
  • ChatGPT: 1,171 organic mentions, 0% citation rate, 65.8% Top-3 rate.
  • Gemini: 661 mentions, 0% citation rate.
  • Claude: 717 mentions, 0% citation rate.
AIVI™ methodology

How the AI Visibility Index is scored.

Brainpan AIVI™ (AI Visibility Index) scores each brand on organic AI placements only — paid placements are quarantined and disclosed separately.

The score is a weighted composite of share of model (35%), recommendation strength (25%), position weighting (20%), citation influence (15%), and top-three rate (5%), normalized so the category leader scores 100. Citation authority and citation independence are reported as companion metrics and are not weighted into the index.

The complete scoring model is published as a versioned document: AIVI™ Methodology and Correction Policy v1.0, covering prompt-set construction, attribution rules, known limitations, and the formal process for challenging a published figure. Prompt design follows the generative-engine framing set out in Aggarwal et al., GEO: Generative Engine Optimization (KDD 2024); the carrier universe is framed against the National Association of Insurance Commissioners record.

Every insurer is measured the same way across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, and Claude — producing one comparable visibility score per quarter.
